Informational FAQ's
- What exactly is the River City Rappel?
- In this fundraiser, participants must raise $1,500 for the "privilege" of rappelling off a 25- story building in downtown Richmond. Additionally, if you and your co-workers would rather "toss your boss," your organization must raise a minimum of $3,000. Proceeds go to Special Olympics Virginia and you, or your boss, will earn some serious bragging rights and access to our VIP event tent.
- When and where will the River City Rappel be held?
- The big descent will take place on October 9-10 at the SunTrust building located in downtown Richmond at 919 E. Main St. This is the same weekend as the Richmond Folk Festival, so be sure to save the dates and attend both events!
- How do I register myself or my boss?
- Just follow these three easy steps:
1. Click on the REGISTER TODAY button. You will be directed to FirstGiving.com
2. Click on the "Get Started" button.
3. Select "The River City Rappel" from the event menu. - Once I am registered, how does the fundraising work?
- Once you are registered through FirstGiving (see the "Register" tab), you will automatically be directed to start creating your own personal fundraising page. Raising funds is as simple as sending friends and family a link to your page! Remember, only individuals raising at least $1,500 or organizations raising at least $3,000 will be permitted to rappel or toss their boss.
- What else can I expect?
- On the day of the event, participants will have the opportunity to "practice-rappel" off of the 3-story parking garage located next to the SunTrust Center. Rappellers will also receive event t-shirts, 2 VIP tent access bracelets, and the privilege of being among the very first people to ever rappel off a high-rise building in downtown Richmond! Already registered to rappel? Click HERE for a list of what you can expect on event day.

Toss Your Boss
Toss Your Boss
Has your boss ever pushed you over the edge? Well now it’s time for some payback!
The 2009 River City Rappel invites organizations to band together and raise funds to support Special Olympics Virginia. And those who raise a minimum of $3,000 will be lucky enough to toss their boss off a 25-story building!
Just follow these four easy steps:
Gather your coworkers. Send an internal email, schedule an “important meeting,” plan a get together during happy hour. The more people participating, the better.
Decide who’s getting tossed. Your fearless leader may not seem so fearless when it comes to dangling over the side of a building 400 feet up. Take a survey, collect signatures, generate excitement in the office that will help convince your boss to go Over the Edge.
Communicate your team goal. Collectively, you and your team must raise a minimum of $3,000 in order to Toss Your Boss. And we’ll make reaching that goal easy by providing VIP support to the first 12 businesses that sign up. We’ll also throw in sponsorship perks at the Silver level.
Grab a seat and get in on the action. The River City Rappel is going Over the Edge at SunTrust Center in downtown Richmond, October 9–10. Lots of activities and goodies will be on hand for spectators, so check back frequently for more details.
